China Eastern to resume passenger flights on Kunming-Kathmandu route
China Eastern Airlines is set to resume regular passenger flights on the Kunming-Kathmandu route starting from August 14. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has granted permission to China Eastern for this flight, marking a significant step in restoring air connectivity between the two countries.
Initially, the airline will operate one flight per week, utilizing the Boeing 737-700 aircraft for the route. Gyanendra Bhul, the information officer of CAAN, confirmed the permission and stated that the company has indicated its willingness to increase the number of flights in response to demand.
Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, China Eastern operated seven flights per week on this route. However, due to the pandemic, the airline suspended passenger flights and limited its operations to cargo-only flights. With the situation improving and the pandemic coming under control, China Eastern is now resuming passenger services to Kathmandu.
Currently, there are six airlines operating flights between the two countries, further contributing to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting tourism and trade opportunities.
